Two Roads, One You.

Opportunities come to us often whether we acknowledge it or not. Think about it. There have been a number of opportunities offered to you in life however you may have chosen to move forward with the alternate option. The option that makes you feel most comfortable, or the option that feels safe. Is there anything wrong with making safe decisions? Absolutely, not. If you feel something is too risky, then do not proceed. But if your only hindrance is that of fear, then you need to reevaluate things.

Such situations reminds me of Robert Frost's, The Road Not Taken. If you have not read or heard of it before I suggest you do so to find out what it means to you. I was introduced to this poem when I was younger. I could not understand it as much then, but over the years I have grown to love this poem completely. It talks about that of the road less traveled. The road or paths that we typically do not choose. However to his surprise, by opting for the one road less traveled, he states, as noted by the Poetry Foundation (n.d.):

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

That choice of choosing what was not the norm or least expected made all the difference. Not the monotony of doing what others are doing. Overall, we have the power of choice. I will be writing about this in the future - and in the near future will also be talking about it so stay tuned. The freedom of choice is powerful! Often times, if you ask someone what they want out of life, they will list things such as: money, driving nice cars, wearing amazing clothes, oh and help those in need.... Not to say those goals are not good nor attainable, but are they fulfilling?

But a better series of questions are:

  • What are you doing that is so different in your life today to make a change for your future-self?

  • What can you see yourself constructively doing in your free time no matter what to help you live that life you want?

  • What are you doing that is so different from those who wake up and attend work everyday just like you?

For a moment, forget the end goal about being famous or having a ton of money and cars. What are you doing to ensure your happiness? For most, that is the road less traveled. I ask these thought provoking questions because they are essential to knowing what the less traveled road would involve and how it could shape your future.Would it require:

Sacrifice? Yes. Consistency? Of course. Will-power? Absolutely.

Again, if there are two roads of opportunity, and one you to make the choice...

Which one are you choosing?
